Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)
When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.( NLT)
If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed. (MSG)
I really like the translation from the MESSAGE (MSG) I find it very true. When we can’t see what God is doing in our lives we panic or doubt, even stumble all over ourselves. That is true in my own life as long as I think I know what God is doing I’m ok, but the minute I’m going through a hardship and I can’t understand His divine purpose I go through the stumbling. But besides not having vision, the latter part of the verse says when we keep and obey the law (which He has revealed) we can be happy, joyful and blessed.
Most the time we can miss the obeying his law part, I know I do. His two greatest commandments, as Jesus instructed, are: “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'” Luke 10:27 (NLT)
It begs the question do I really follow what has been revealed to me?!? On too many levels I’d have to admit I could always Love God more and as for my neighbors I can’t even begin to write how many times I’ve failed in truly Loving others. That’s a trait I have work on and if I can be honest I’m nowhere near the mark at least not as loving as I know the Lord wants me to be.
So the scripture is a truth that Jesus revealed to us in Luke 10:27. We have vision now we don’t have to “run wild” it’s been revealed to us through the words of Jesus…No excuses.
If we live out His words Loving Him and loving others we don’t have to stumble because His truth is revealed in Jesus (who is the ultimate show of God’s love for us) and if we follow His law in loving God and loving others we can be happy, joyful and blessed.
